Makeni, SIERRA LEONE, July 4th, 2025 – As the 2024/25 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League approaches its final matchdays, Vem Buck FC, Rising Queens, and Ascentonians FC have been officially relegated to the First Division.
Despite having two fixtures left, all three teams are mathematically unable to escape the drop due to a poor run of results throughout the season. Vem Buck, a Freetown-based club that narrowly avoided relegation in previous seasons, sits bottom of the table with just 6 points from 20 matches — recording only one win, three draws, and 16 losses.
Makeni’s Rising Queens and Freetown’s Ascentonians — both promoted last season — struggled in their top-flight debut. Rising Queens are 11th with 12 points, while Ascentonians are 10th with 13 points.
Meanwhile, Koya Queens, Kahunla Rangers, and Malema Queens remain in danger, with one more relegation spot yet to be decided. Koya Queens, currently 9th with 20 points, could secure safety with victories in their final two games, depending on results elsewhere.
This will mark the first time four teams are relegated in a single season, following a new league format adopted by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) at its 2023 Congress.
The relegated clubs will compete in the regional First Division next season and seek promotion through the 2026 national playoff, where two spots will be available for the 2026/27 Premier League. That season will feature a revised 10-team format nationwide. ARW/4/7/2025
