50 Member Moroccan Delegation Set to Visit Sierra Leone in December

Date:

Rabat, Morocco — In a historic move for Sierra Leone, a 50-member delegation from Morocco is scheduled to visit the country in December 2024, marking a significant step in President Julius Maada Bio’s vision for transformation and development. The delegation will engage directly with local ministries, departments, and business leaders to facilitate discussions and explore investment opportunities.

This announcement was made during the Economic Promotion Week, where a 13-member delegation from Sierra Leone participated in events organized by the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI). The Sierra Leonean delegation was led by Mr. Tamba E. Juana, Deputy Director General (Policy) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The week-long event, held from October 28 to November 1, 2024, took place in Rabat, Casablanca, and Dakhla. During the meetings, emphasis was placed on fostering enduring relationships between Moroccan and Sierra Leonean businesses. The goal is not only to attract investments but also to promote knowledge transfer and capacity building within Sierra Leone. The Sierra Leonean delegation engaged with their Moroccan counterparts to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties.

Earlier this year, the Sierra Leone Embassy in Rabat convened prominent Moroccan investors who met with various ministries and agencies to discuss investment and trade opportunities. These investors expressed their commitment to cooperation, demonstrated by the high-level investment promotion week organized by AMCI.

The Economic Promotion Week also featured the Sierra Leone-Morocco Investment Forum, which included participation from the Sierra Leone Export and Import Produce Agency (SLEIPA) and several ministries. Significant progress was made in bridging gaps with stakeholders to support and enhance investment opportunities in Sierra Leone.

Key outcomes from these engagements include Morocco’s commitment to organizing a high-level 50-member delegation for the “CGEM African Forum for Investment,” scheduled to take place from December 4 to 6, 2024, in Freetown. This multisectoral meeting will involve various ministries and business entities. Additionally, the Moroccan African Chamber of Commerce plans to host the African Investment Forum and the African Executive Meeting in Rabat, aiming to consolidate investment interests and potentially include other African nations seeking similar collaboration.

The meetings focused on exploring investment opportunities in sectors such as mining, agriculture, energy, tourism, security, and infrastructure development. The Moroccan delegation expressed interest in expanding its economic outreach into West Africa, particularly Sierra Leone, leveraging its rich mineral resources and favorable investment climate.

These developments align with President Bio’s commitment to transforming Sierra Leone across multiple facets. Based on these discussions, the future looks promising, as Sierra Leone is positioned as a key player for potential collaboration and investment.
