7 suspects in custody over alleged forceful initiation of a boy into secret society

Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – After they allegedly forcefully initiated into the ‘poro’ society Alie Kamara whose age was not mentioned, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) on Tuesday 7th March 2023 reported to the press that the SLP has arrested seven stakeholders at ‘Tombo’ Community in that regard.

The disclosure was made at the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters on George Street in Freetown, during the usual police press briefing.

According to the police, the victim, Kamara, reported to the police that around 13;00 hours, he was kidnapped by Daddy Foday who forcefully initiated him into the ‘poro’ society. But noted that he would be able to identify the said Foday if seen.

SLP reported that during the course of endorsing a medical for Kamara who sustained injuries and bodily pains, a team of police officers proceeded to the crime scene and arrested stakeholders who are connected with such an act in the ‘Tombo’ Community.

The seven stakeholders are currently in the custody of the police, helping them with the investigations. SKS/9/3/2023
