Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – John Bangura and six others who are believed to be notorious armed robbers have been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility on Pademba Road in Freetown over a robbery allegation.
John Bangura and six others are facing three counts of related robbery charges. Police alleged that the accused, on a date unknown between the 6th and the 16th of May 2023, in Freetown, being armed with a shotgun and machetes, robbed Julian Awoonor Renner of several items, including five hundred United States dollars and used personal violence on Renner thereafter.
Police also alleged that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd accused persons, on Sunday 7th May 2023, at No.23D light foot Boston Street in Freetown being armed with a shotgun and machetes, robbed Ndye Njie several items valued at one hundred and ninety-five Leones (195,000) property of the said complainant.
Police furthered that the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd accused persons on the 19th May 2023 at Kabba Drive, Masimbo, Regent, in Freetown, being armed with a shotgun and machetes, robbed Justice Alfred Tommy Ganda off property valued at fifty-six thousand eight hundred Leones(NLe56,800) properties of the said complainant and further used personal violence on him.
The accused persons did not take a plea after the charges were being read and explained to them because it is a felonious offence.
Police prosecutor Inspector Kadie Taylor is yet to lead any witness in court. Rather she requested an adjournment date to enable her to do so. On the other hand, defence counsel J Mans tried in vain to secure bail for his clients.
Magistrate Marke Ngegba remanded all accused persons, and he adjourned the matter to the 10th of July 2023 for further hearing. SKS/4/7/2023
