ANOC Extends Congratulations to Newly Appointed NOC-SLE Secretary General Ahmed Khanou

Date:

Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) has formally congratulated Ahmed Khanou on his recent appointment as Acting Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE).

In a letter addressed to Khanou, ANOC President Robin Mitchell expressed warm wishes for the seasoned sports administrator’s new role:

“Dear Mr. Khanou, we would like to extend our warmest congratulations on your election as Secretary General of your National Olympic Committee. We wish you all the best for the coming years and look forward to close cooperation for the promotion and development of the Olympic movement.”

A Wealth of Experience
Khanou, who currently serves as President of the Sierra Leone Volleyball Federation, brings decades of sports administration expertise to the position. He succeeds Joseph Nyande as head of the National Olympic Committee/Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone (NOC/CGA-SLE).

The newly appointed Secretary General has held several prominent roles in Sierra Leone’s sports landscape, including:

  • Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Volleyball Federation (prior to becoming President)
  • Minister of Sports
  • Key figure in multiple international sports delegations

Khanou’s extensive background is expected to provide stability and leadership during this transitional period for NOC-SLE. His appointment comes at a crucial time as Sierra Leone prepares its athletes for upcoming international competitions, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

“Ahmed Khanou’s proven track record in sports administration makes him uniquely qualified for this role,” commented a spokesperson from the Ministry of Sports. “His understanding of both local and international sports governance will be invaluable.”

The NOC-SLE has yet to announce the duration of Khanou’s acting appointment or plans for a permanent Secretary General selection process.

Sports analysts anticipate Khanou will focus on strengthening Sierra Leone’s Olympic programs and improving athlete support systems during his tenure. BT/7/4/2025
