Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Sierra Leonean rapper Alhaji Amadu Bah, popularly known as Boss LA, was given a royal welcome by fans in Lungi over the weekend, where he was dramatically crowned “King of the Entertainment Industry” in a colorful ceremony featuring traditional African attire.
The crowning, which took place on Sunday night at Mahera Beach, drew hundreds of enthusiastic supporters who turned out in force to celebrate the hip-hop star’s triumphant return. Dressed in regal African robes, Boss LA delivered an electrifying performance that left the crowd in awe.
The choice of venue added an extra layer of intrigue. Lungi is also the hometown of Amara Denis Turay, better known as Kao Denero—a long-time rival of Boss LA and Sierra Leone’s official Entertainment Ambassador. Kao Denero has played a pivotal role in shaping the local music industry, using his platform to promote Sierra Leonean culture and talent on the global stage.
In contrast, Boss LA, who is currently recognized as a Peace Ambassador, has used his influence to advocate for unity and social cohesion through his music. The two icons have dominated Sierra Leone’s hip-hop scene for over a decade, but their personal feud has remained a persistent and public divide.
The symbolism of Boss LA being crowned in Kao Denero’s backyard has not gone unnoticed. While fans celebrated the moment as a cultural milestone, others speculated that it could reignite long-standing tensions between the two music heavyweights.
As of now, there has been no official reaction from Kao Denero regarding the crowning. Whether this symbolic move will deepen the rift or pave the way for reconciliation remains to be seen. MJB/26/4/2025
