Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – A businessman, Mohamed Amara, has been remanded in custody after making his first court appearance on allegations of fraudulent conversion involving two printers valued at ten thousand Leones. The printers were reportedly entrusted to him by lawyer Emmanuel Teddy Koroma ESQ for sale, but he allegedly misappropriated them for personal use.
Amara appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, where he was charged under Section 20(1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to court documents, the incident occurred in July 2024 at #3 Macdonald Street in the Western Area of Freetown. It is alleged that instead of selling the printers and remitting the proceeds as agreed, Amara fraudulently converted them for his own benefit.
When the charge was read and explained to him, no plea was taken.
Prosecutor Sergeant 3379 Theresa Ballay requested a brief adjournment, citing the absence of a key witness whose testimony is crucial to the case.
Amara, who appeared without legal representation, was denied bail by Magistrate Bangura, who deemed the charge serious enough to warrant remand at the Freetown Male Correctional Facility.
The case has been adjourned to April 3, 2025, when further proceedings will determine the next course of action. SKS/30/3/2025
