Casablanca, Morocco, July 5, 2025 – In a significant step toward elevating women’s football on the continent, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday, July 2nd, unveiled a brand-new trophy for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Casablanca.
The unveiling comes as anticipation builds for the 15th edition of the tournament, scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5th to 26th, 2025. Designed to reflect strength, unity, and ambition, the newly revealed trophy is set to become a powerful symbol of progress in African women’s football.
Inspired by the men’s AFCON trophy, the new design features a blossoming flower—its petals symbolizing the participating nations. At the center lies a golden sphere engraved with a map of Africa, representing pride and aspiration across the continent.
Crafted from silver and gold and mounted on a polished white marble base, the trophy is elegantly engraved with the tournament’s name—emphasizing the growing stature of WAFCON in Africa’s sporting calendar.
Twelve teams will compete in the 2025 edition, including reigning giants Nigeria, who have claimed the title a record 11 times. Hosts Morocco are eager to make a lasting impression in front of home fans, with the national team placed in Group A alongside Zambia, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
CAF officials say the new trophy underscores their commitment to gender equality and the continued development of women’s football throughout Africa. BT/5/7/2025
