Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Emma Kamara has made a historic mark in Sierra Leone cricket by becoming the first player to score a century (100) in a T20 match. Kamara, who began her cricket journey as a young girl, achieved this milestone while playing for St. Anthony Junior Secondary School, Kingtom, during the Cricket Sierra Leone Boys T20 Inter-Secondary Schools Championship.
Kamara’s century came against a competitive lineup, including notable players such as George Sesay, the current vice-captain of the Sierra Leone U19 Men’s Cricket team, and Samuel Conteh, a key player for the Patriots of Sierra Leone and one of the top wicket-takers in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Her performance stands out not only for its historic nature but also for its context: Kamara achieved this feat while competing in a boys’ league, further underscoring her exceptional talent and determination.
Emma Kamara joins an elite group of Sierra Leonean cricketers, including Mabinty King and Fatu Conteh, as one of the few players to have batted as an opener and remained not out in the T20 format.
In recognition of her remarkable achievement, Kamara has been honoured with a special gift package from the Cricket Sierra Leone board, as confirmed by Chairman Francis Samura. Her contribution to the sport has solidified her place in Sierra Leone’s cricket history.
Kamara’s impressive performance also extended to the recent ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Kigali, where she continued to showcase her skills on the international stage. BT/31/8/2024
