Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – On August 1, 2024, the Sierra Leone Police Force celebrated the completion of an eight-week Mindfulness for Stress Course by the first batch of eight officers at Hastings, Freetown.
Facilitated by Breathworks Outreach in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police, the course aimed to equip officers with meditation techniques and strategies for responding thoughtfully to high-pressure situations, rather than reacting impulsively.
In her keynote address, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dukuray commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for his commitment to enhancing the skills of the police force. She encouraged the participants to become teacher-trainers within their units to spread the benefits of the training across the force.
Certificates of Merit were awarded to each participant upon completion of the course. Trainer Samuel Allieu announced that similar mindfulness training would be extended to the provinces in the near future to benefit more personnel.
Detective Police Constable Abu Bakarr Turay, one of the trainees, expressed gratitude for the valuable skills and knowledge gained. The newly trained officers pledged to apply these techniques to foster better relationships and improve their performance in their duties. SKS/5/8/2024
