Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Florence Tucker, a Sierra Leonean based in the United Kingdom, is transforming the fabric industry in Sierra Leone with the establishment of two high-quality fabric stores. Her innovative approach addresses the need for premium and everyday fabrics within the country.

Tucker, who has been involved in the fabric business for the past decade, cites her grandmother as a major source of inspiration. “I developed a passion for fabrics from a young age, inspired by my grandmother,” Tucker shared with Awoko Newspaper.

While working in the UK, Tucker accumulated the capital necessary to launch her ventures in Freetown. Her latest business milestones were highlighted during the rebranding event and grand opening of her new store at No. 41C Wilkinson Road in Freetown on August 24, 2024.

Over the past ten years, Tucker’s original store at Upgun has become a go-to solution for Sierra Leoneans seeking high-quality fabrics. “I initially started this as a side hustle but decided to establish a dedicated store in Upgun to provide better access to quality fabrics,” Tucker explained.

The goal, she noted, was to eliminate the need for Sierra Leoneans to travel abroad to purchase fabrics. “I’m pleased that over the last four years, my business has successfully served the community,” she added.

To further meet the needs of customers across Freetown, Tucker opened a second store at No. 41C Wilkinson Road. This new location, like the Upgun store, offers a wide range of both affordable and luxury fabrics for men and women.

In addition to her business achievements, Tucker is committed to supporting youth development by creating employment opportunities for ten Sierra Leoneans. “I believe in investing in young people to help them become successful members of society,” she said.

Tucker also encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to pursue their business ideas. Her journey serves as an inspiring example of how dedication and vision can reshape an industry and uplift a community. SKS/311/8/2024
