Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Foundational Learning Summit which will commence on the 6th to 7th February 2023, will be hosted in Sierra Leone according to the Communication Officers of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education.
The Summit according to the Ministry is geared toward demonstrating the progress made so far in the three countries of Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Malawi and those countries to exchange technical notes.
The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, David Moinina Sengeh said the three countries are unifying to engage in a Foundational Learning Summit adding that this is a South-South exchange on the African continent for foundational learning purposes.
The Minister however noted that it would gather stakeholders from the Ministry to discuss the challenges faced, progress, and lessons learned to deliver better learning outcomes for pupils in their classroom.
“The ambition is to turn this into a continuous learning exchange to take place on an annual basis with rotation among host countries. Each country will present its key initiatives within foundational Learning, Leadership from the World Bank” Minister Sengeh disclosed.
The Chief Education Officer of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Professor Yatta Kanu, noted the Foundational Learning that will be hosted is a key and significant priority for the country’s education system, especially on the current education curriculum, the education sector plan and the statement made by President Bio.
She continued that the proposed foundational Learning is not the end goal of the country’s education system but it is a starting point to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the system. AJ/15/1/2023
