Historic Feat for Sierra Leone Referees: All Participants Pass FIFA Fitness Test

Date:

Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a landmark achievement for Sierra Leone’s football community, all participating referees in the ongoing FIFA Member Association (MA) Course have successfully passed the mandatory FIFA fitness test — the first time such a milestone has been reached in the country’s history.

The course, organized by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), officially kicked off on Monday, June 16, 2025, in Bo City and will run until Sunday, June 25. It brings together 30 elite referees and 25 instructors for an intensive week-long training focused on capacity building, technical development, and peak physical performance.

“This is a proud moment for Sierra Leonean refereeing,” said P.K. Muana, Acting Chairman of the SLFA Referees Committee. “Achieving a 100% pass rate in the FIFA fitness test is not only historic but a clear sign of the growing professionalism and dedication within our refereeing ranks.”

The training is being led by two high-profile FIFA instructors — Evangelist Felix Onias Tangawarima from Zimbabwe and Cherifi Nasreddine from Algeria. They are joined by three experienced local facilitators: Alhaji Sanusie Rashid, Alhaji Abdul Rahim Sanusie, and Zainab Wilson.

This milestone is a testament to the SLFA’s unwavering commitment to improving officiating standards through continuous professional development and collaboration with international experts.

With this success, Sierra Leone takes a significant step forward on the global stage, reinforcing its place in the world of football through excellence in refereeing. BT/18/6/2025
