The Chairman of Health for All Coalition, Charles Mambu, has said that he was not arrested for any free health care drugs, but that he only took a truck load of 284 cartoons Free Health Care Drugs to the Criminal Investigation Department in Freetown at 2: 00am in the morning.
Charles Mambu made this statement at a press conference held yesterday at the Health for All Coalition office at Fort Street in Freetown while reacting to our front page story of yesterday’s edition.
He said “I was not arrested but one of my supervisors Bockarie Ansumana was interrogated by the Police about a truck load of free medical drugs disguised by bags of garri which was intercepted by Police at Mosensie checkpoint.”
While explaining the role of his organization Charles Mambu said “we are only monitoring the distribution of free health care drugs to various health centers across the country.”
He said that Health for All Coalition has one representative for any distribution exercise who is charged with the responsibility to monitor and supervise the quantity of drugs to be distributed and tally it with the documents in their possession.
Charles Mambu also acknowledged that Bockarie Ansumana was the Monitoring Officer of Health for all Coalition during the distribution when the vehicle was impounded at a checkpoint.
Charles Mambu also said when the vehicle was arrested at the checkpoint, his supervisor called him and informed him about the arrest.
He further stated that he had to call the Deputy Minister of Health and other stakeholders including the Vice President to put in place a Police escort for the truck to be transported to Freetown.
“I did not sleep that night until we took the truck to CID; we also met representatives of the Ministry of Health and UNICEF and the Vice President where Health for All Coalition was commended and the Vice President Sam Sumana ordered an immediate investigation into the surplus”.
Charles Mambu also said that some arrests have been made by the Police and investigations are still ongoing.
Awoko wishes to unreservedly apologise to Charles Mambu for any inconvenience the offending article may have caused. Our reporter fell prey to overzealous police informants who claimed to be dealing directly with the case. Sorry Mr Mambu it will never happen again.
