Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – On Friday, August 23, 2024, Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu hosted a farewell ceremony at Police Headquarters on George Street, Freetown, to bid farewell to the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Manuel Muller. The event also marked the introduction of Charlie Suilen as the newly appointed EU Regional Security Advisor for Sierra Leone and Liberia.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Muller expressed his deep appreciation for IGP Sellu’s unwavering commitment to maintaining internal stability in Sierra Leone throughout his tenure. He highlighted the IGP’s consistent support and availability, which played a crucial role in fostering a peaceful environment in the country. Reflecting on his time in Sierra Leone, Muller praised the nation for its remarkable religious tolerance and the peaceful nature of its people. “I will deeply miss Sierra Leone and her people,” he said, urging IGP Sellu to extend the same level of support to his successor.
Charlie Suilen, the new EU Regional Security Advisor, affirmed his commitment to strengthening the partnership between the European Union and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP). He emphasized the importance of continuing collaborative efforts to sustain peace, safety, and security in the nation.
In his response, IGP Fayia Sellu acknowledged the significant contributions of the EU to the SLP, particularly highlighting support for INTERPOL and the West Africa Police Information System (WAPIS). He credited the success in maintaining social order and upholding the rule of law in Sierra Leone to the collaborative efforts of the government and international partners like the EU.
As he bade farewell to Ambassador Muller, IGP Sellu remarked, “The leadership may change, but the EU remains the same. We will miss you, but please keep Sierra Leone in mind.” SKS/26/8/2024
