Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – A memorial plaque was on Thursday unveiled during a touching ceremony at St. Augustine Church, Hill Station in honour of the late Chief Komrabai Peter Penfold, almost a year after his passing.
The former British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Penfold is remembered as a true friend of the nation, known for his dedication to peace and democracy.
Adonis Abboud, Dean of the Consular Corps, led the unveiling, describing Penfold as a diplomat committed to the sustenance of democracy, peace, and the safety of Sierra Leoneans. “Peter’s life and accomplishments went beyond his call of duty. His passion and love for Sierra Leone during the civil war showed an unmatched dedication,” Abboud remarked.

British High Commissioner Lisa Chesney reflected on Penfold’s significant role in advocating for peace and unity in Sierra Leone. “Peter’s life should be celebrated for the strong advocate he was. He touched many lives, and his acceptance in the country speaks volumes,” Chesney noted.
The ceremony also featured the planting of a tree beside the plaque. Engineer Andrew Keilie emphasized that the tree would serve as a living reminder of Penfold’s legacy. “This tree symbolizes the life and contributions of Peter Penfold to our country. We will ensure its care as a tribute to his enduring impact,” Keilie said.
