Makeni, Sierra Leone – Rising Queens FC endured a painful lesson in top-flight football on Sunday after suffering a crushing 11-1 defeat at home to reigning champions Mogbwemo Queens in the Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League (SLWPL).
The encounter at the Wusum Stadium turned into a goal fest for the visitors, as Mogbwemo Queens, twice crowned league champions, displayed clinical dominance from the first whistle to the last.
Wuya Mahoi led the onslaught with a commanding performance up front, supported by a brace from Fatmata Turay and goals from five other teammates, as seven different players etched their names on the scoresheet.
Rising Queens’ lone moment of celebration came courtesy of Maseray Turay, whose strike served as little more than consolation in an otherwise one-sided affair.
Sunday’s rout marked the heaviest defeat this season for Rising Queens, who are making their debut in the SLWPL. The loss also added to their growing woes, bringing their record to 12 defeats, with only three wins and two draws from 17 matches. The team now sits 11th in the 12-team standings, five points ahead of bottom-placed Vem Buck FC.
In contrast, Mogbwemo Queens continue to mount a strong title challenge. The Bonthe-based giants remain in second place, just three points behind current league leaders Ram Kamara FC of Bo, who top the table with 49 points.
With five crucial matches left in the 2026 campaign, Mogbwemo Queens are well within striking distance of a third title, while Rising Queens must regroup quickly if they hope to avoid relegation and maintain their place in Sierra Leone’s top women’s league. ARW/18/6/2025
