Freetown, Saturday 5th July 2025 — In a show of strong support and continuity, Moses Nyawulu Koroma has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Western Area Volleyball Association (WAVA) at its much-anticipated elective congress held at 15B Kingharman Road, Freetown.
The congress, which had drawn considerable attention from stakeholders and enthusiasts in the volleyball community, confirmed that Koroma was the sole nominee for the presidency by the close of nominations on Wednesday 25th June. As a result, he automatically retains the top leadership position for a second consecutive term.
Joining him on the executive are other unopposed candidates: Ibrahim Tortor Koroma as Vice President, Karifa Thoronka returning as Secretary General, and Mohamed Ishmael Kamara as Deputy Secretary General. Their unchallenged nominations are seen as a vote of confidence in their commitment and capability to steer the association forward.
Karifa Thoronka, who is also returning for a second term, praised the unity and sense of purpose within the association. “The fact that these key positions went unopposed is a testament to the confidence the volleyball community has in these individuals,” he noted. “Ibrahim and Mohamed bring fresh energy and unwavering dedication to the sport, which will undoubtedly enhance volleyball development in the region.”
Moses Nyawulu Koroma’s re-election also means he will continue to serve as Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of Sierra Leone, a dual role that strengthens the synergy between regional and national volleyball governance.
As WAVA embarks on another term of leadership under familiar faces, hopes are high that the team will continue to build on past achievements and further elevate the sport’s profile in the Western Area and beyond. BT/5/7/2025
