NASSIT asks for Le500m quarterly payment from Sierramin Bauxite

Date:

The Lawyer representing the National Social Society and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Farakhan Sesay has on Saturday 27th March 2021, asked the Court for the defendant Sierramin Bauxite to be paying to NASSIT Le 500 million every three months as a result of monies owed to the Trust.

Lawyer Sesay made such a call before Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker,  at the NASSIT Court on Siaka Stevens Street, after the defendant had pleaded to the charge some weeks ago of not paying social security contributions for its workers to the Trust and decided to come up with a payment plan.

According to the Court records, Sierramin Bauxite owes NASSIT over Le 4.9 billion inclusive of NASSIT contributions of its workers, fines and penalty.

In his submissions in Court, the Lawyer of Sierramin Bauxite Limited, S.F. Fomba said that they had fought very hard to honour the Court’s first order, by paying 10% of the monies owed to the Trust, (Le 490 million).

He noted that despite the defendant was struggling at the moment,  but they want to furnish the Court with their mode of payments.

Lawyer Fomba said his client is willing to pay the sum of Le 250 million every quarter in order to clear all of the arrears they owe the Trust. He also prayed for waiver within the laws to be enjoyed by his client and canvassed the Magistrate to execute whatever action that is just for his client within the said situation.

Responding to such mode of payment, lawyer Farakhan Sesay from NASSIT told the Court that his client may prefer the sum of Le 500 million to be paid by the defendant quarterly, in as much as quarterly is in every three months of the year than the Le 250 million.

After listening to both parties,  Magistrate Sellu Tucker intimated to the lawyers that, she is going to make a just ruling on the aforementioned issue next Saturday, and later adjourned the matter to the same date. MJB/29/03/2021
