Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – Following his decisive victory in the recent Makeni Artist Union (MAU) Presidential Elections, Augustine JayTee has outlined the key priorities for his tenure. In an exclusive interview with Awoko Newspaper’s entertainment desk, JayTee shared his plans to build on the legacy of his predecessor, Governor Blaq, and advance the union’s development.

JayTee secured the MAU presidency with 88 votes, defeating competitors Lady Nancy, who garnered 46 votes, and Sweet Boy, with 38 votes. The election, held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the City D’Light Center in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, was lauded for its transparency and peaceful conduct, marking a significant moment in the association’s history.

Reflecting on his victory, JayTee called it a “collective win” for all involved, praising the election process for its fairness and unity. A former teacher and Public Relations Officer of the union, JayTee now steps into his new role as the third democratically elected president, following the leadership of Stuntman and Governor Blaq.

JayTee is committed to fostering unity within the union and promoting progressive change, including efforts to engage those with differing views. His administration’s top three priorities are focused on unifying members, rebranding the union, and revitalizing key events that can generate revenue and engagement.

“I will work to unify the general membership through regular meetings, entertainment events, and community engagement,” JayTee pledged. He also emphasized the importance of rebranding the union and re-engaging veteran artists. One of his key initiatives is the launch of the “Old School Compilation,” which will offer veteran musicians free access to recording opportunities and promotional platforms, helping them showcase their talents and remain active in the industry.

Another focal point of his administration is reviving the union’s flagship events, including the Old School versus New School, East versus West, and Rep Your School competitions. These annual events are intended to not only foster competition and camaraderie but also serve as a significant source of revenue for the union.

JayTee is determined to achieve these ambitious goals during his three-year term, expressing confidence in the support of union members and stakeholders. “I’m committed to working with everyone to restore these events and create opportunities that benefit all our members,” he stated.

Outgoing presidents Stuntman and Governor Blaq, along with former candidates Lady Nancy and Sweet Boy, extended their congratulations to JayTee. Bloggers, entertainment stakeholders, and other well-wishers have also pledged their support for the new president, expressing optimism for the future of the Makeni Artist Union under his leadership.
