NGO CHIDO ends orientation workshop

A Local NGO Chibuzor Human Resource Development Organization (CHIDO) operating in Kenema District has ended a five days orientation workshop on mother’s club and Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) for its field staffs at their 11 Boima Street, IDA section in Kenema city.
Delivering his statement the Programme officer of CHIDO Victor Momoh gave a brief background of his organization saying CHIDO is a Sierra Leonean national Non Governmental Organization founded in 1999. He added that CHIDO is registered as a non profit organization by the Ministry of Development and Economic Planning (MODEP), recognised by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affair’s (MSWGCA) and a member of the Sierra Leone Association on Non Governmental Organization (SLANGO).
CHIDO he further disclosed, is the focal NGO for Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) Coalition in Kono District, a member of Kono District Human Rights Committee, and the Kono District collaborative Network on Girl-Child Education.
The CHIDO boss said the training was organized to keep abreast their field staff on Community Led Total Sanitation and the activities of the mother’s clubs for a successful implementation of the project in the eastern region.
He disclosed that the Community Led Total Sanitation project started in 2008 as a pilot program in Western Area and in the Kenema district and has now been extended to the Northern part of Sierra Leone following the gains recorded during the implementation of the pilot phase.
Victor Momoh disclosed that CHIDO is implementing the mother’s cub project in 75 communities in Kono district, 75 communities in Kenema district and 20 communities in Kailahun district under the community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) program.
He further stated that his organisation has also rehabilitated 10 hand dug wells and trained communities attendants for the wells with support from UNICEF to take great care of the facility noting that CHIDO is the only organisation implementing the VSO project in West Africa and in particular Sierra Leone funded by the European Commission.
He added that CHIDO is working towards the promotion of human rights, women’s empowerment program and the girl child education through the out of school project funded by UNICEF.
Earlier in his address the chairman of the occasion who doubles as the Chief Administrator at the Kenema District Council (KDC) Charlie Kallon commended UNICEF and CHIDO for their intervention and encouraged participants to work with honesty and sincerity for the development of the communities and the organization they are working for.
He stated that the activities of CHIDO in Kenema District is complementing the work of the Kenema District Council and he encouraged all particularly development agencies to emulate the good example set by CHIDO in promoting girl child education and women empowerment programs in their operational areas.
