Freetown, SIERRA LEONE, July 4, 2025 – The Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, has dismissed widespread social media reports claiming that Leone Stars head coach, Mohamed Kallon, has demanded a $20,000 monthly salary and threatened to resign if his request is not met.
In recent days, several WhatsApp groups and online platforms have circulated reports suggesting that Kallon issued a stern ultimatum to Sierra Leone’s football authorities: either meet his $20,000 monthly salary demand or risk his immediate departure from the national team.
However, Saffa Abdulai—who also owns Premier League side Luawa FC—has categorically denied these claims, stating that the reports are false and misleading. He confirmed that negotiations with Coach Kallon are still in progress and that no final agreement has been signed.
“We are still in the process of finalizing the contract. While figures have been mentioned during discussions, at no point has Coach Kallon issued a threat to quit,” Abdulai clarified.
He emphasized that the ongoing talks are part of standard contractual procedures and assured the public that both parties are committed to reaching a mutually beneficial agreement.
Kallon, a national football icon and former international player, was appointed head coach of Leone Stars earlier this year, drawing considerable public interest and expectation. His potential leadership is seen as a new era for Sierra Leonean football, making the terms of his contract a matter of national interest.
As discussions continue, the NSA has urged the public to remain patient and to disregard unverified reports that could jeopardize the process. BT/4/7/2025
