Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Old Edwardians Football Club, the only school-based team in Sierra Leone’s top-tier football, delivered a major upset on Saturday, June 7, 2025, by defeating table-toppers East End Lions 1-0 in an intense clash at the Leone Rock Premier League.
The decisive moment came in the 37th minute when Momoh I. Sankoh found the back of the net, sealing a hard-fought victory for the May Park outfit. The win marks Old Edwardians’ ninth triumph of the season out of 22 matches, alongside 10 draws and only three losses, bringing their tally to 37 points.
With this result, Old Edwardians leapfrogged both FC Kallon and defending champions Bo Rangers on the league table, overtaking them by a point each to move into fourth place.
Despite the setback, East End Lions remain at the top with 47 points from 22 games, but Saturday’s loss was their third of the campaign—raising eyebrows as the title race tightens.
At the Southern Arena, Bo Rangers and FC Kallon played out a goalless stalemate. Both sides now sit level on 36 points each, underscoring the increasingly competitive nature of the top four battle.
Meanwhile, at the newly constructed Port Loko Field, home side Bullom Stars shared the spoils with Bai Bureh Warriors in a 1-1 draw. Warriors took the lead in the 38th minute, only for Bullom Stars to equalize in the 53rd. The draw places Bullom Stars at 25 points, while Bai Bureh Warriors moved up to 34.
Down at the Approved School field, bottom-placed Freetown City FC and fellow strugglers Abacha City played to a drab 0-0 draw. Abacha City now has 25 points, while Freetown City continues to languish at the foot of the table with just 16 points.
As the season edges toward its final stages, the title and relegation battles are heating up, promising more thrilling encounters in the weeks ahead. BT/9/6/2025
