Openness Please!

Date:

We have watched with seeming disbelief at the new developments that have come in with the new APC administration.
Firstly is that the vehicle number plates of Ministers is covered when they are using it in the night and in some unofficial capacity or is it?
We believe that this is criminal because why would they want to hide their identity if they are not doing anything wrong. Why do they not want to be identified if they are doing legitimate business?
This new trend is so strange because even the NPRC military boys did not cover their number plates when they should have been doing so because the practice is seen more in the military where the drivers of Brigadiers cover the car plates and fold the flags when the Brigadier is not onboard. So the only reason we can fathom for the covering of number plates is because people want to indulge in either criminal or unlawful business. This practice we believe must stop.
This is an issue which also borders on responsibility. Is it that the public officials on the top most rung of the ladder are afraid of taking responsibility for their actions? Is it that our Ministers deliberately want to write their own law and not be held accountable for their actions? Otherwise why do they ride around in black cars, with extremely darkened windows and also with covered number plates? If such a vehicle drives crazily along the streets and hits and kills a pedestrian and then runs away who do we hold responsible? If a political contract killing is executed on somebody and the vehicle that is being driven away at high speed is black with darkened windows and the number plates are hidden who do we hold responsible? Is this why the darkened windows and hidden number plates? Is this the criminal mind at work already?
We believe that public officials, especially those at the top most rung of the administrative ladder must act by example. When they act and behave in a way that criminals do, then people will accuse them of being criminals. Moreover this will be an incentive for others down the line to behave in a similar manner. Is there any reason why Okada riders do not obey any traffic rules? Is there any reason why there are no longer any one way streets in this country, since all manner of motorists simply drive in the wrong direction? Is there any reason why our youth are growing up with disrespect for elders? The list goes on.
Public office holders must know that the office comes with a baggage and that is their actions will be monitored and scrutinised by the public. If people do not want that then they must not accept roles in public life.
We believe there must be transparency and accountability. These should not be empty words delivered in speeches, they must be put to work. Let us have some openness please.
