Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Prince of Wales Secondary School in Kingtom celebrated a landmark achievement yesterday with the inauguration of its first-ever Multi-Purpose Sports Complex—a project spearheaded by Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Ambassador Christian Dauda, who called it “a dream realized.”
Dauda, a proud alumnus of the school and former Leone Stars Team Manager, had long envisioned a modern sports facility for his alma mater. His dream took a significant step forward in July 2023 when he donated Le 50,000,000 (NLe 50,000) to support sports development following the school’s triumphant victory in the Western Urban District Inter-Secondary Football Championship—their first in 31 years.
Originally, Dauda had planned to oversee the construction himself, engaging Bond and Associates Ltd for the project. However, due to prior commitments, he instead provided the funds to ensure the complex became a reality.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dauda reflected on his emotional connection to the school and his commitment to nurturing young talent.
“This complex is more than just a facility—it’s a testament to what we can achieve when we invest in the future of our youth,” he said. “As we celebrate the school’s centenary, I am proud to contribute to its legacy and ensure that students have the resources to excel in sports.”
He also pledged to fully equip the arena, ensuring it meets international standards for various sporting activities.
The Multi-Purpose Sports Complex marks a turning point for Prince of Wales, which has long been a breeding ground for athletic talent. The facility is expected to host football, basketball, and other sports, providing students with a professional-grade venue for training and competition.
School administrators, students, and sports enthusiasts hailed the project as a game-changer for grassroots sports development in Sierra Leone. With this new complex, Prince of Wales is poised to produce the next generation of national athletes—fulfilling Dauda’s vision of empowering youth through sports.
“This is just the beginning,” Dauda added. “I hope this inspires others to give back and invest in the dreams of young Sierra Leoneans.” BT/5/4/2025
