Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Outstanding strides are being made by volunteers from the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) Kono branch as they promote community service and volunteerism among the youth. Through school visits and a growing membership drive, they are reaching out to students across the district.
Promoting humanitarian values, their mission is to encourage students to get involved in community service, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to make a positive impact. Recently, the volunteers visited Eastern Moral Academy, where they discussed the importance of humanitarian work, community service, and first aid.
Helping students understand the value of humanitarian efforts, the interactive session raised awareness of the crucial role that youth can play in supporting the Red Cross’s mission and contributing to a compassionate society. Students engaged actively, asking questions and exploring how they could contribute.
In another effort, the team held a special “Red Cross Hour” at Gbense High School, where students learned more about the Red Cross’s programs and the benefits of joining. The assembly served as a platform to highlight the value of volunteerism and inspire more students to join.
Energized by each school visit, the SLRCS volunteers are fostering a strong sense of community and responsibility among the youth. Their passion for creating a better future resonates with students, motivating many to consider volunteering and making a difference in their local areas.
Gaining momentum, the membership drive has seen more students show interest in joining the Red Cross and contributing to its life-saving work.
Evidently, the energy and dedication of the Kono branch volunteers are leaving a lasting impact, nurturing a spirit of volunteerism and humanitarian action among the next generation. OG/6/11/2024
