Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Twelve swimmers and three technical officials from Sierra Leone Aquatics have been honoured with certificates of participation after successfully completing a three-day training clinic focused on effective communication. The training, conducted in collaboration with the Learning Garage Consultancy and Cricket Sierra Leone Ltd, aimed to enhance language awareness and the adept use of media platforms.
Addressing the athletes and technical officials during the certificate presentation ceremony, CEO of Sierra Leone Aquatics, Abdul Turay, emphasized the significance of honing communication skills for athletes. He expressed his expectations that the participants would now be better equipped to perform confidently during interviews and public engagements.
The Assistant Secretary General, Joseph Jida-Kiz Kamara, praised the recipients for taking part in the enriching course. He emphasized that capacity building is essential for the growth of any association and stressed the importance of fostering continuous learning opportunities within the organization. He recalled past experiences where swimmers struggled with interviews and affirmed the association’s commitment to providing professional training to address such challenges.
To ensure comprehensive and effective training, Sierra Leone Aquatics partnered with the skilled instructor, Alie Sonta Kamara, renowned for his Learning Garage teaching sessions on television. The collaboration proved fruitful, equipping the participants with valuable communication techniques.
During the seminar, several swimmers shared insights gained from the training, expressing their eagerness to apply the newfound skills judiciously. The program proved to be a valuable asset in empowering the athletes to articulate their thoughts and emotions confidently and effectively.
The Sierra Leone Aquatics Executive Committee, together with its partners, lauded the success of the training clinic and emphasized their commitment to continued development initiatives. By investing in the communication capabilities of their swimmers and officials, the association aims to nurture a generation of articulate and media-savvy athletes, poised to excel both in and out of the water.
