Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Sierra Leone Senior Women’s Cricket Team have emerged as champions of the BCA Kalahari Women’s T20 International Tournament, after an impressive unbeaten run in Gaborone, Botswana.
The tournament, held in the capital city, saw the Sierra Leonean women dominate the field, winning all seven of their matches. In the grand finale on Wednesday, 30th April 2025, Sierra Leone set a target of 107 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. The host nation, Botswana, struggled in their response, managing only 68 runs for nine wickets—handing Sierra Leone a commanding 39-run victory.
Anne Marie Monica Kamara was named Bowler of the Series, claiming 12 wickets in seven innings with an exceptional economy rate of just 1.79. Team captain Aminata Kamara and teammate Emma Kamara followed closely, each securing 10 wickets to finish second and third, respectively.
Best Fielder went to Marie Turay, who delivered a standout performance by dismissing seven batters across seven innings.
Captain Aminata Kamara was also honoured as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Celina Bull, Emma Kamara, and Anne Marie Monica Kamara placed second, third, and fourth respectively in the MVP standings.
This historic victory is expected to significantly boost Sierra Leone’s ICC Women’s T20 International rankings and inspire greater participation among local female athletes. With their renewed confidence and NWACC momentum, the team now turns its attention to the upcoming ICC Qualifiers set for July. BT/2/5/2025
