A high profile delegation from the Sierra Leone Library Board (SLLB) in Freetown recently paid a day’s visit to Kenema to inspect the facilities in the City Library and the newly constructed regional one situated at 55 Hotagua Street in Kenema City.
Ag. Chairman of the Sierra Leone Library Board in Freetown, John Abdul Kargbo, outlined the purpose of their visit to the provinces, comprising Makeni, Kabala, Bo and Kenema City.
In Kenema, Mr. Kargbo said the team met with authorities of the Kenema City Council (KCC) with a view to setting up a local Library Board and looking into the possibility of making the new regional Library operational.
He disclosed that plans were drawn for the electrification of the structure, water supply as well as to recruit staff.
Contributing, Malikie Koroma the librarian in charge of the regional Library, East, said the local board comprises of the Chief Administrator of the Kenema City Council, Paramount Chiefs, the Councillors of the Ward, where the library is located, authorities of the Ministry of Education Youths and Sport (MEYS) and other stakeholders in the region.
They are tasked to ensure that development and maintenance of the facilities are a matter of priority.
He further stated that arrangements are now underway between himself and the Chief Administrator of the Kenema City Council for the realization of the plan for the region, while Mr. Macfoy, the Finance Officer of the region, took an inventory of the assets provided by National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA).
