Mohamed Kamara is accused of robbing Mohamed Ansumana of a TVS motor bike in Freetown on 7 September 2016. During the course of the robbery, he also wounded the Ansumana, the complainant.
After one year on remand and preliminary investigations at the Magistrate Court, Kamara appeared before Justice John Bosco at the Siaka Stevens Street, High Court to answer to charges of Robbery with Aggravation and Wounding with Intent, contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916 and the Offences against a Person’s Act 1861.
Kamara pleaded guilty to the offences as charged. The state Prosecutor, Y.S. Koroma adopted the particulars of offence on count one and two and informed the Court that the accused had no evidence of a criminal record.
Defence counsel, Cecelia Tucker, pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy on the grounds that the accused was young and was a first-time offender.
Justice John Bosco sentenced the Kamara to serve five-years each on both counts. Kamara will serve his jail term concurrently taking into consideration the time he has already spent at the Correctional Centre.
