National Olympic Committee (NOC) President Dr Patrick Coker has called a meeting to solve the impasse within the Cycling discipline.
In his statement, he said that they have been instructed by the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) to see how they can resolve the situation by having a new election in 45 days time.
Dr Coker also stated that their (NOC) business was to monitor the process.
Curtis Johnson of the Sierra Leone National Cycling Association (SLNCA) told the National Olympic Committee that as an association they have held their election and the next election will be held in 2020 after the Percy Nicholson executive’s mandate should have expired.
He explained that the former President, Winston DC Crowther was part of the process but boycotted the election. Further he said, the Administrative Secretary of the National Olympic Committee A G Koroma was present and did not only make a statement on behalf of the executive but he was also the key player in conducting the election.
The former President Winston DC Crowther during his statement said that he was happy to see how they can solve the problem once and for all.
The Director of Sports Ibrahim Bangura in his statement said that people should respect state authority.
After hearing from both the former President and the scribe, the NOC President Dr Patrick Coker decided to put into vote the question of whether they want election now or 2020.
Out of the 8 that were present 6 said that the next election should be held in 2020.
On these grounds the NOC President said he cannot go further with the meeting because over 50% of the past executive have said the election should be held in 2020
He said they were going to inform the international partners about the outcome of the election – Confederation of Africa Cycling (CAC) and the Union Cycling International (UCI).
