Sierra Leone Triumphs Over Rwanda in ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier; Faces Malawi Today

Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Sierra Leone kicked off their campaign in the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier with a decisive victory over Rwanda, winning by 7 wickets at Dar Gymkhana Oval in Tanzania on the weekend. Following their opening match success, Sierra Leone will face Malawi today, Monday, August 5, 2024.

In their match against Rwanda, Sierra Leone won the toss and chose to field first. Rwanda struggled at the crease, managing only 51 runs by the 19th over and conceding 8 extras. George Sesay spearheaded Sierra Leone’s bowling attack with a stellar performance, delivering 31 dot balls and claiming four wickets with an impressive economy rate of 2.50. He was supported by James Bangura, who took two wickets from 22 dot balls, and Raymond Coker, who added one more wicket. Mohamed Turay also contributed by taking three wickets, leaving Rwanda with a target of 52 runs.

When Sierra Leone took to bat, they reached their target comfortably in the 12th over. George Sesay was named Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling, finishing with figures of four wickets for 16 runs off six overs. This victory marks Sierra Leone’s fourth win against Rwanda in ICC matches since 2016.

Sierra Leone’s tournament continues with their final group stage match against Botswana on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The Africa Division 2 Qualifier will see a total of 16 matches played from August 2 to 8, 2024. BT/5/8/2024
