Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a heartwarming show of gratitude and commitment to education, Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) international scout and talent developer, Morlai Bureh Kamara, has donated a significant consignment of learning materials to three primary schools in Freetown. The initiative, part of his “Sierra Leone – Kick for Knowledge” project, is supported by Harrow Boarding School in the United Kingdom.
On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Kamara’s gesture reached Samaria Primary School on Wellington Street and the Bathurst Street-Methodist City Mission Primary Schools, where students received books, pens, pencils, geometry sets, and other essential learning tools — all valued in the thousands of British pounds.
Speaking from the UK, Kamara described the donation as a personal mission to give back to the schools that helped shape him. “It’s payback time,” he said, adding that education is as vital to development as sports.
This isn’t the first time Kamara has extended support to his homeland. In a previous initiative, he donated football equipment to vulnerable children in the Kroo Bay Community, many of whom aspire to become professional footballers.
“The children need these materials, and this time, I wanted to focus on education,” Kamara said. “With the support of some incredible boys from Harrow Boarding School, we are making a difference, one donation at a time.”
During the handover ceremony, held within the school grounds, Rosa Sillah — a former pupil — emphasized the importance of giving back. “We believe this small act will have a big impact on the future of these children,” she said, echoing the vision of Kamara and his UK-based partners.
Francis Otaim Kamara, another ex-pupil, encouraged the young beneficiaries to prioritize their studies so that they, too, can one day uplift others.
Hanan Kadami, representing Harrow Boarding School, noted that the students involved in the initiative are passionate about supporting communities beyond their own borders. “We believe in the power of education,” she told the children. “It’s the key to becoming someone who can positively impact society.”
Expressing her appreciation, Mrs. Mansaray, Deputy Head Teacher at Samaria Primary School, called the donation timely and impactful. Her sentiments were echoed by Nathaniel Williams, Head Teacher of Bathurst Street-Methodist City Mission Primary School, who assured that the materials will be used effectively to enhance learning.
Kamara’s initiative continues to bridge sports and education, demonstrating that giving back is a goal worth scoring — both on and off the pitch. BT/8/5/2025
