Social Mobilization Manager calls on MPs and PCs to lead COVID 19 Vaccine roll out.
A Team from the National COVID 19 Emergency Response Center (NaCOVERC) in collaboration with the District COVID 19 Emergency Response Center (DiCOVERC) have ended a one day orientation session in Kenema city with Parliamentarians, Paramount chiefs and other stakeholders from Kenema, Kono and Kailahun districts on the Prevention and Control of COVID 19.
Addressing Participants the National Social Mobilization Manager NaCOVERC Aflred Jamiru encouraged participants to take the lead in the vaccination process, adding when they go back into their communities they are to ensure that their people obtain the vaccination cards by taking the vaccine.
He disclosed that the country currently has 380,000 vaccines that will soon become unusable that is why they are making efforts to roll it out into the communities.
He said currently they are operating with 67 to 300 teams across the country in order to meet their target. And in the future they will increase from 600 to 850 teams across the country.
He said the paramount chief were to ensure that there chiefdom speakers, section chiefs, town chiefs, village chiefs are encourage to take the vaccine there by acting as a role model. He said the orientation is a nationwide process to bring everyone on board.
The District Medical Officer Kenema Dr. Donald Grant disclosed that Kenema district is having two centers, Government Hospital Kenema and Panguma hospital in the Lower Bambara chiefdom with two teams. He disclosed that Kenema district with two centers and two teams has given out 25,768 as compared to Western Area with several teams with 42,073. He said if Kenema district has more teams and with support from all they will double their performance. He said for now Kenema stands in the second position followed by Kailahun district in the third position in vaccination roll out.
Participants called on NaCOVERC to frequently engage them in rolling out health issues and to giving out the relevant support. They assured NaCOVERC of their continued support in their various communities.
