Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a recent update at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, Chernor Bah, the Minister of Information and Civic Education, disclosed that among the 87 suspects held in custody, Alie Fornah has been granted bail due to severe medical reasons at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Bah highlighted that the remaining suspects have provided their testimonies and statements to the Sierra Leone Police. Subsequently, these files have been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for review, with the intent to press charges and proceed to court for hearings.
While addressing the press, the minister also mentioned the ongoing investigation concerning former President Ernest Bai Koroma. Despite a requested break by his defense team at the CID Headquarters, the matter remains active.
“It’s important to note,” Bah emphasized, “that those found guilty after due investigation and court proceedings will be subject to the full extent of Sierra Leone’s legal system.” Presently, the CID Headquarters continues to detain 87 individuals associated with the case.
Regarding Alie Fornah’s situation, the minister clarified that despite being granted bail due to medical reasons, the investigation into his involvement remains ongoing.
“Rest assured,” Bah concluded, “that irrespective of bail for medical reasons, anyone implicated will undergo a thorough investigation within the legal framework of our country.” AJ/20/12/2023
