The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) has ended a training of its recognised groups on lobbing, conflict management and advocacy at their regional office in Kenema City.
Facilitator John Sivalie said the aim of the training is to build the capacity of youths in the district to constructively engage stakeholders on issues relating to the development of their roles and responsibilities within communities.
Sivalie encouraged participants to be good ambassadors of YMCA and to complement the effort of the organisers through the sharing of information gained from the YMCA capacity building workshop for the benefit of the nation.
Participants were also educated on human rights, the three Gender Act Laws of the country and the maintenance of peace in their settlement for the sustainability of peace and development.
The Eastern region Project Officer of the YMCA, David Foday, stated that the aim of the workshop is to support youth livelihood programs in Sierra Leone and Liberia for the promotion of peace in the two countries.
He disclosed that the project they are currently implementing for the youth in Kenema District is being funded by the Comic Relief, YCare International and European Commission.
David Foday disclosed that YMCA has succeeded in providing skills training to 75 trainees in 7 technical institutions in Kenema City and its environs and called on the youths in the District and the region to register with YMCA in order to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country thereby achieving their development aspirations.
