Leone Stars loses to Lone Stars

Date:

Sierra Leone’s construction work to the group stage of the 2022 world cup started on a bad footing when they lost to Lone stars of Liberia on Wednesday 4th September 2019 at the Samuel K Doe Stadium in Monrovia by three goals to one. During the match in the first 20 second the host should have taken the lead through careless play from the defence and before the break Leone Stars were trailing at half time to a Sisel penalty which was very controversial. During the second half of play, Johnson for Liberia missed from close range. Thanks to Sierra Leone’s first-half hero goal keeper Zombo Morris who quickly prevented the damage.

Some minutes later Leone Stats levelled the score from Quee which changed the dimension of the game and Johnson the captain for Liberia caused ‘hearts in mouths’ scenes for Leone Stars with a terrific free kick which hit the wood work of the post  After the ball the referee from Benin pointed to the spot in controversial circumstances. The 20-year-old Liberian striker dispatched with finesse. Daylight robbery that was! But Leone Stars crumbled just when they were expected to recover from that shocking decision. A mix up between keeper and defender gifted Johnson the ball and the captain capped an impressive display with a finish. Leone Stars have a huge mountain to climb going into the return leg on Sunday 8th September 2019 at the National stadium in Freetown as they need to win two or three zero to move to the group stage of the competition.  Some of the fans who watched the match from our local TV stations say we should learn from the result and do our home work at home winning two or three zero is possible. The team is expected back home today to prepare for the second leg.
