Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Freetown’s own Papay Zua is making waves yet again with his latest hit, “Ar Lay La Bi,” which has just surpassed 10,000 plays on Audiomack—and the numbers are still climbing.
This electrifying track is quickly becoming the soundtrack of the streets, masterfully blending Sierra Leone’s iconic gumbay rhythms with the infectious energy of bubu music. Produced by Yong Lee, the song showcases Zua’s signature creativity and versatility, proving why he remains a standout force in Afropop.
Born and raised in Freetown’s East End, Papay Zua (real name withheld) attended St. Theresa Primary School and St. Edward’s Secondary School before joining the musical collective CONWARDS. His career took off as part of the duo Black Snoop and Papayzua, delivering hits like “Woke Hard” (ft. YOK 7) and “Kata Kat” (ft. Ragga Spice).
After launching a successful solo career with bangers like “Nar Ein Phone,” “Hib Am,” and “Sweet Me” (ft. Nega Don), Zua took a bold step—relocating to the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area in pursuit of greater opportunities.
But the grind didn’t stop there. Knowing the challenges of funding a music career abroad, Zua and his wife launched GEM101 Transportation, a box truck freight company that keeps the wheels turning—both on the road and in the studio.
For Zua, family is everything. His wife and children are his biggest motivation, pushing him to keep creating, hustling, and inspiring fans worldwide.
“Ar Lay La Bi” is more than just a song—it’s a testament to resilience, culture, and the unbreakable spirit of Sierra Leonean artistry. MJB/10/5/2025
