The newly elected Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA), Francis Trevor Samura has stated that participation is at the Centre of cricket development noting that his administration aims to capacitate the workforce of the association primarily to increase participation and to expand the base of the game.
Samura who won the just concluded SLCA election with a landslide victory said his administration will be embarking on five key priorities which includes Increasing Participation, Capacity building, Refined Administrative Policies, Developing Infrastructures and Good Governance.
He said his aim is to make sure that he capacitates the workforce of SLCA, which is primarily to increase participation and to expand the base of the game. “Participation is at the Centre of cricket development. We want to increase the number of frontline workers (umpires, scorers, development officers, etc),” he said.
Chairman Samura said coaches, administrative personnel, umpires, and scorers need capacity building and refresher courses and that the cricket development officers across the country have to be capacitated.
“We will make sure that we strengthen the communication wing of SLCA, an effort that includes bolstering the website and other digital platforms in order to attract millions of viewers across the world, anywhere, any time,” he stated.
The former CEO also stated that the other top priority for his administration is to ensure that they have world class training and playing facilities with top class equipment to help coaches and players train in an enabling environment adding that people managing these facilities should be trained and certified. This calls for working on high performance structures.
On the governance front, Samura said they are going to work on principles that will enable them to be more transparent to the membership and to the International Cricket Council.
