Sierra Leone News: RUFP does not believe in rallies – PRO

Date:

The official election campaign will soon close and yesterday was the last day of campaigning in the western area for the Revolutionary United Front Party (RUFP). Abdulai D. Saccoh is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the RUFP. “Our party ideology does not believe in political rallies because our focus is the people and not to make merriment and dance in the street.” He added that this was why during its campaign days, a house-to-house as well as community meetings were organised to effectively engage the public.
“We don’t want to disturb the peace of the public with blatant looting and no regard for the law, it was for this reason our Councillor candidate for Ward 396, Peter Bangura decided to convene a town hall meeting to educate the membership and supporters about the do’s and don’ts during polling day.”
With regards to the RUFP manifesto, Saccoh said the party will introduce a Government of inclusion devoid of tribalism, sectionalism and nepotism, which was absent under the Siaka Stevens and J.S. Momoh governments. He also mentioned that the RUFP will introduce the N’KO alphabet to go alongside with adult education, noting that education is the foundation for development.
Questioned on the membership strength of the party, PRO Saccoh disclosed that in 2012 the RUFP pulled over 12,000 votes, and for the 2018 elections the membership has grown with the addition of first time voters. “We have limited resources to run the affairs of our party, that is why we only filled in three candidates for member of Parliament, in Bo, Kenema and Makeni, while four councillors will contest; one in the east, one in the north and two in the western urban and rural”.
Abdulai Saccoh furthered that the party’s Presidential candidate, Jemba Gbandi Ngobeh is a grassroots politician, who hails from Kailahun District and with her long years of experience as an administrator she was endorsed by the membership.
