Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – On a vibrant Saturday, April 20th, 2024, the Friends of Transit Organization (FoTO) rallied the community under the banner of “Unity is Strength” for a purposeful walking event themed: “Walking Builds Mental Health,” aimed at supporting vulnerable children. With approximately 1000 enthusiastic participants, the walk kicked off from the Siaka Steven’s Stadium Main gate and concluded at the picturesque Aberdeen-Lumley Beach front.

Aruna Patrick Kamara, the public relations officer for FoTO, shed light on the event’s noble cause, disclosing that the funds raised would be directed towards assisting sick and vulnerable children. “These funds will cover medical expenses and provide essential resources to aid in their recovery,” he affirmed, noting that a dedicated committee would oversee the selection of hospitals for donation distribution, ensuring maximum impact through careful assessment.

Kamara underscored FoTO’s unwavering dedication to societal well-being, emphasizing that the organization, comprised of dynamic individuals from diverse backgrounds, has been actively serving for four years. He expressed pride in the annual walk event, now in its third successful iteration, as a testament to the power of collective action in nurturing mental wellness and aiding marginalized communities.

Participants of the walk resonated with sentiments of appreciation towards the organizers. Madam Mariatu Kamara expressed optimism for the positive transformation the raised funds would bring to vulnerable children, while Ibrahim Jawara lauded the event’s dual significance, recognizing its role in promoting physical health alongside community support.
