Sierra Leone: After he was allegedly shot in his left leg, Randolf John on Friday 2nd July 2021 testified against one Mohamed Kamara in the preliminary Investigation into alleged attempt to maim, robbery with aggravation, wounding with intent, among others.
Kamara was arraigned before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Pademba Road in Freetown after police alleged that on Wednesday, 26th May 2021 at No. 12 Hill Side Drive Leicester Road in Freetown, conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit robbery with aggravation.
Police also alleged that the accused on Wednesday 26th May 2021, robbed Randolf John off his bag valued at Le70,000. He said the bag contained the sum of ten thousand two hundred dollars ($10,200 USD); plus checks containing millions of Leones.
Police also alleged that the accused on the same day and place wounded Randolf John. Police added that the accused on the same day and place caused grievous bodily harm to the accused.
The police also alleged that the accused person on the aforementioned date wounded Randolf John with intent to maim him.
Police slammed five counts of robbery with aggravation contrary to Section 23(1) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916 as replaced and repealed by Section 2 of the Imperial Statues (Criminal Law) adopted (Amendment) Act 1971, Act No. 16 of 1971, two counts of wounding with intent contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1816, causing grievous bodily harm contrary to Section 18 of the Offences against the Persons Act of 1816, wounding contrary to Section 20 of the Offences against the Persons Act.
Prosecution witness and victim, Randolf John, disclosed that he drove to his house in the evening hours of 26th May 2021, “Upon reaching home I heard the sound of a gun. Out of curiosity, I came outside my house. I saw the accused holding a black pistol in his arms,” the witness disclosed.
He said the accused told him that they have come to him adding that he should drop his bag and hand over all that he had. “I was so apprehensive that I wet on my pants,” he revealed.
“The accused fired two shots, while demanding for my bag, before long, I took a few steps backwards, then the accused shot me on my left foot,” he disclosed. He added that he felt serious pain and blood started oozing from this foot.
He continued that after he had been shot, he handed over his blue black bag to the accused and his accomplices. He mentioned that the bag contained ten thousand two hundred dollars ($10,200 USD), one million two hundred and fifty thousand Leones, his car key, post dated cheques, one of the cheques he said was for Le120 million Leones, another he said is Le 60 million Leones, another Le 60 million, his medicine, adding that his wallet was also inside his bag and it contained his driver’s license, EDSA card, among others.
He also mentioned that the accused handed over the stolen bag to his accomplices, while he put him under gun point ordering him to remove his chains.
At this stage the Magistrate requested for an adjournment because he said time was not in his favor. He remanded the accused at the Male Correctional Facility on Pademba Road in Freetown, and he adjourned the matter to the 9th July 2021.
